Up River: An Homage to the Hudson by Artist and FIT Faculty Member Kingsley Parker

The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) will showcase Up River, a 63-foot-long multidimensional representation of the Hudson River, in the museums Gallery FIT from November 12 through December 10, 2011. Constructed of painters tarpaulins stitched with the navigational routes used by sailors, the installation was created by artist Kingsley Parker, associate professor and assistant chair of FIT's Communications Design Department. The exhibition also includes prints and sculpture by Parker.

This is only the third time a solo artist has been selected for the annual FIT Art and Design Faculty exhibition. Fashion illustrator and FIT associate professor and assistant chairperson of the Fashion Design Department Steven Stipelman received the honor in 2007.  Sculptor and retired FIT professor of Fine Arts Robert Schecter was chosen in 2001.

Parker attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Hartford Art School University. He received his BA from Middlebury College and his MA from Hunter College. His work has been shown at numerous museums, galleries, and universities in the U.S. and exhibited in Poland and the former Yugoslavia. He has been teaching at FIT since 1994.
