New Media and Performance Art in the Market

What: A free panel discussion on the interaction between alternative arts and the art market. Topics will include new media and performance art's distinct and vital presence in the arts community, and the market for intangible art during the current economic climate and in the future.

Jeffrey Deitch 
Art dealer and owner of Deitch Projects, which deals in modern and contemporary art; art advisor to private and institutional art collectors; art critic and exhibition curator.

Clifford Owens
Performance artist and photographer who explores the interaction between artist and audience; exhibitions include Performa05, Freestyle (The Studio Museum in Harlem), Greater New York (P.S.1) and Clifford Owens (On Stellar Rays, NY); currently the Hanes Visiting Artist at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Cara Starke
Assistant curator in the department of media and performance art at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), specializing in the acquisition and exhibition of time-based media; currently co-organizing William Kentridge: Five Themes at MoMA.

Thea Westreich
Founder of Thea Westreich Art Advisory Services, which advises private collectors throughout the United States and Europe; curator of collections in specific media, such as video and film, photography, and works on paper, as well as painting and sculpture; co-publisher of artists' books.

Martha Schwendener (moderator)
Critic published in Artforum, Bookforum, Art in America, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Village Voice, Time Out New York, Flash Art, and other publications.
