FIT's women's volleyball team had an impressive autumn in 2009, with a 14-0 record in regular-season play, a top-ten NJCAA Division III national ranking, and regional Coach and Player of the Year honors. The Tigers have now made it to the Region XV playoffs for 11 straight years. This was their second consecutive year finishing second place in the contest: On October 31, they played Nassau Community College in the final, losing 1-3.
Coach Max Auguste, a former member of St. Lucias national volleyball team who has coached FIT's women's team since 2005, called this the best year so far. Everyone came in with the basics of the game mastered and we moved right into team-oriented practices, coordinating their play. He also noted that the team's youth—of the 12 players, only three won't return next season—speaks well for its 2010 prospects. Region XV Player of the Year Corinne Ribiere just started at the college, as a Fashion Merchandising Management major, this fall.
