Graduation from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) on May 19 represented two major achievements for Inga Poslitur of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She obtained a bachelor's degree in Illustration magna cum laude and was honored with a Chancellors Award for Student Excellence from the State University of New York system (SUNY), of which FIT is a part. This award recognizes the most talented and gifted students attending SUNY institutions.

SUNY Vice Chancellor and Officer-In-Charge John J. OConnor honored 238 college students from SUNY campuses throughout the state with the 2009 Chancellors Award for Student Excellence. The average Grade Point Average (GPA) for all recipients this year is 3.77.

A rigorous three-part process that begins at our campuses evaluates not only each students academic, artistic and athletics performance, but also their service to the community, said OConnor. It is my pleasure to congratulate this years recipients, their families, and the campuses for their remarkable achievements. These students are truly the best of the best at SUNY today.

Poslitur received her award at a ceremony in Albany, NY, in April. Born in Sochi, Russia, she graduated with a bachelor's of fine arts degree from the Andrei Rublyov Academy of Arts in Moscow in 1989. She and her family immigrated to the United States the following year. She is now working as a free-lance illustrator and exhibiting her work at major art competitions and galleries. Her paintings also are in private collections in the U.S. and abroad.
