Loan/Renewal Periods

Library Materials 

Library Books/DVDs and Interlibrary Loan that were checked out during the Spring 2020 semester have a due date of 9/16/2020. Any accrued fines from Spring/Summer/Fall 2020 will be waived. Holds on accounts will not be applied for loans during this period. 

Library material checked out with a December 22, 2020, the due date has been extended to February 16, 2021, if you are currently enrolled for the Winter/Spring semesters. If you are not enrolled and need an extension, please contact us

Ready to Return Your Library Books/DVDs?
For members of the FIT community, please enter the Goodman Lobby. Please make sure to have your FIT ID with you. Members of the SUNY community may also drop off library material from their home institution by entering the Goodman Lobby. You must have a current SUNY ID with you.  The return drop box is located near the Curbside Pick Up Tables.  Drop off hours are Monday - Sunday 9am-7pm. No appointment is necessary and drop off is contactless. Here's a link to the campus map and directions.

Please consider purchasing insurance on items sent via post. Tracking is included on packages sent via media mail (and through most USPS services). We are not responsible for lost or damaged packages. 

Be advised: We are quarantining returned material for four days as per the latest guidance from safety expertsYou will receive a return confirmation email once the items have been processed.

Having issues renewing your library books? You may have reached your max renewal limit, but please email us at [email protected] for assistance. We will accomodate you.  

Use My Library Account to review all material you currently have checked out. If you're currently not enrolled at FIT, you won't be able to log into "My Library Account". If you are registered and you're still have issues logging in, please contact Tech Help for assistance.  

As of November 25, curbside pick up is suspended for the rest of the Fall 2020 semester. Due dates will be extended to accommodate this change in service.  We hope to resume service in January.  

Very limited access to library books and DVDs will be available to FIT faculty, staff, tutors, undergraduate and graduate students and Non-Credit Certificate Program students with “curbside” pickup in the Goodman Lobby.  Up to 25 books can be checked out at one time for faculty, tutors, graduate students. Up to 15 books can be checked out at one time for undergraduates and Non-Credit Certificate Program students Requests can be made through OneSearch, using the “Request for Curbside Pick Up” link once you are logged in. Reservations are required to schedule a pick-up. Reserve Textbooks, Reference Books and Periodicals (lookbooks, forecast materials, etc) are unavailable for pick up. Plan ahead as turnaround time may take up to one (1) business day. Requests received after 5pm will be processed the following business day and are processed in the order in which they are received.

Browsing in the Main Stacks/Periodicals is currently unavailable to all. 

Textbook Returns from the FIT Barnes & Noble Store
Are you trying to return a textbook rental that you got through the FIT Bookstore? Click here for important instructions from the bookstore; do not return these items to the library as we have no way to get the items to the bookstore and you will continue to be charged for the rental.

 Note: The majority of information belows applies to when the Library is open and operating like normal which is yet to be determined. - 8/18/20

  • Only two renewals allowed online or at Access Services/Reserves Desk for books for undergraduate students. Three renewals are granted for graduate students. One renewal allowed for audiovisuals (DVDs, CDS, etc.). No telephone/email renewals.
  • General Collection refers to circulating books from the stacks located on the 5th floor. Non-circulating books are also found on this floor.
  • Reserves, Picture Collection, Interlibrary Loans, Audio/Visual Material and Equipment are located at the Access Services/Circulation Desk on the 5th floor.
  • If a circulating item is checked out and you wish to place a hold on it, log into your account in OneSearch, the Library's Online Catalog, find the item and click on Request. You'll be prompted to confirm and you'll receive an email when the item is ready for pick up.

  • Students may borrow material for only the semester they are registered for. For example, a student is registered for the Fall Semester, loan privileges will end at the end of the Fall Semester. For example, a student is registered in the Spring Semester, but has not registered for Summer OR for Fall, may not borrow material during the Summer.
