FIT's Internship Center works a semester in advance. This means that:
- Students are required to apply for their internships one semester before the semester in which they plan on doing internship.
- The counseling, interviewing and selection processes also take place a semester in advance of the actual internship.
SPRING semester interns begin their on-site work in late January early February, serve
for a minimum of 12 weeks and conclude their internships in May.
FALL semester interns begin their on-site work in late August or early September (serving the same 12 weeks) and finish up their internships in mid-December.
SUMMER semester interns begin their on-site work either at the end of May or early June, serve for six weeks and conclude their internships in mid-July.
For Spring, Fall and Summer students the number of hours that they spend at the sponsor
site depends on whether they have enrolled in a 2, 3 or 4 credit class. For the 4
credit class the student is required to intern a minimum of 168 hours during the semester.
For the 3 credit class the student is required to intern a minimum of 123 hours during
the semester. For the 2 credit class the student is required to intern a minimum of
WINTER session runs for the entire month of January. Students begin their on-site work late December or right after the New Year starts, and serve a minimum of 78 hours over the January semester.
No interns are available to start later than 2 weeks after the beginning of the current semester
Sponsors requesting students must apply at least 3-4 months prior to the semester to which they hope to attract interns to give their positions the best chance of being considered by our students
