QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field is required. Minimum of
five years of progressively responsible experience in college safety and
security is required, with demonstrated successful experience in a supervisory
capacity. Candidate must have knowledge of federal and state laws applicable to
the institution (Student Right to know FERPA, ADA, Campus Security ACT, Sexual
Assault, etc.) Strong oral and written communication skills. Previous experience
in law enforcement is preferred. Knowledge of and experience in the use of
computers, with an understanding of access control. Ability to work in a campus
environment with a student centered approach. Must possess and demonstrate
excellent customer service skills, tact, resourcefulness and the ability to work
with a diverse constituency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the operations of the department including supervision,
training, and selection of staff, scheduling, policy development and
enforcement. Act as liaison with internal and external agencies and assure
compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Oversee the 4:00 p.m.
to 12:00 a.m. shift and handle all duties and responsibilities of the Director
of Security in his absence. Provide leadership to a comprehensive safety and
security program including planning, organization, and evaluation of the
department. Ensure up-to-date training of all staff members, as well as
providing training when necessary for other internal constituencies. Respond to
and investigate suspicious and criminal activities as they occur on the campus
including fire or smoke emergencies. Coordinate and conduct fire safety
inspections. Coordinate visitor access to campus facilities ensuring compliance
with visitors’ policies.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Security, or Vice President
of Finance & Operations.
