PART-TIME
Days/Hours: Sunday: 12 noon to 8 pm
Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday: 5 pm to 10 pm
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and one year experience in a
library setting in reference or related services; or high school diploma and an
Associate degree from an accredited institution plus 2 years of related library
experience; including automated reference experience or an equivalent
combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the
essential functions of the position.
Working knowledge of library classification systems including, basic reference
tools in print and online. Familiarity with the use of the internet and
information/computer literacy skills. Excellent knowledge of English grammar,
spelling and usage including the ability to prepare correspondence. Ability to
participate on a team focused on producing high quality results and to establish
and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, employees,
and the general public. Must be able to work in a changing and high pressure
public service environment with enthusiasm and initiative. Advance ability to
use Microsoft Office Suite or other application software as required for
position. Ability to perform record keeping and statistics for reports and
internal usage. Strong ability to provide excellence in internal and external
customer service. Create a positive experience for clients through professional
and courteous behavior and creative problem solving solution to apply excellent
internal and external customer service skills. Must possess and demonstrate
excellent customer service skills, tact, resourcefulness and the ability to work
with a diverse constituency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work as an assistant to Library faculty in performing duties related to
Reference Desk service. Provide in person and telephone reference response to
patrons’ questions. Provide quick and accurate answers using appropriate
reference techniques in a professional non-judgmental manner. Refer patrons to
appropriate agencies when necessary. Keep current references with in the Library
area. Perform online reference searches when appropriate. Checks in serials and
loose-leaf services. Files and/or shelves them in correct order. Edit Library
OPAC bibliographic item records to update location, repair, etc. Maintain
reference statistical data. Photocopy materials upon request. Assemble handout
packets. May participate in department/division/section operational process
including procedure development and implementation. Process new reference
materials according to established procedures. Read shelves and shifts books in
assigned areas to maintain correct call number order and neatness. Perform
clerical duties such as filling, retrieving, shelving, and word processing.
Represent the Library to the public in operational services as required. May
participate in library-wide committees or projects.
