Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty Positions

Fall 2008

The Fashion Institute of Technology, an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York, invites applications for faculty positions. Appointments will begin in fall 2008.

Successful candidates are expected to actively participate in departmental and college-wide committee work; curriculum development; academic support services, such as portfolio review and general advisement; student recruitment and admissions; and professional organizations. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills; a commitment to quality education and student-centeredness; and the ability to work with a diverse student population and be part of a collaborative team. Must demonstrate leadership skills.

DEPARTMENT OF ADVERTISING AND MARKETING COMMUNICATION – 3 positions

Position I: Sales Promotion Professional
Qualifications: Master’s degree with a minimum of ten years' executive level and hands-on consumer and business-to-business experience. Internet experience a must; college teaching experience preferred. The Department seeks a student-oriented candidate who will demonstrate a history of innovation, a global and multi-cultural perspective and an interest in interdisciplinary projects.

Position II: Journalism
Qualifications: Master’s degree in an appropriate field and at least ten years’ experience as a journalist. College teaching experience required. The candidate must be able to teach introductory journalism, fashion journalism and magazine journalism.

Positions III: Generalist
Qualifications: Master’s degree required with a minimum of ten years' executive level experience. The Department seeks a student-oriented individual, with college-level teaching experience preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a history of innovation, a global and multi-cultural perspective and an interest in interdisciplinary projects. The successful candidate must be able to teach a broad spectrum of courses which could include: Advertising and Promotion, Strategic Planning, Copywriting and Creative Strategies, and Publicity.



DEPARTMENT OF FASHION MERCHANDISING MANAGEMENT – 5 positions
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred and ten years' executive, fashion-related experience. The Department seeks student-oriented individuals who can demonstrate a history of innovation with a global and multicultural perspective. The ideal candidates will be able to incorporate technology into existing and newly developed curriculum. Candidates should have expertise in one of the following areas:

  • Planning and Allocation Management: Planning and allocation experience for a retailer and/or manufacturer. Must have replenishing and/or forecasting experience in a collaborative environment. Financial planning experience a plus.
  • Web PDM: A thorough knowledge of computer-aided PDM, including implementation of technology to create, merchandise, and communicate each phase of the product development process.

DEPARTMENT OF PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree and college-level teaching experience preferred. Minimum seven years of current managerial experience in sewn products manufacturing to include strong background in production technology, industry engineering, computer-based costing, and technical applications as they relate to manufacturing; also must have in-depth experience with Microsoft office Professional with an emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint, and Access as they relate to the apparel industry and information management systems.

DEPARTMENT OF TEXTILE DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING
Textile Total Quality Management Specialist
The successful candidate (with expertise in Total Quality Management preferred) will teach Basic Textile Science and courses related to textile design engineering, textile product development/specs, standardized textile testing and defect analysis.
Qualifications: Minimum B.S., preferably in textile technology, textile engineering or textile chemistry; minimum of seven years' experience with textile product development/specs and quality performance testing. Commitment to undergraduate teaching and teaching excellence. Preferred: familiarity with international supply chains and global manufacturing networks and computer skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
