PART-TIME
20 hrs/per week Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm; 4 hours shifts as
assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required; prior work experience in a
Residential Life office or experience as a Resident Assistant; comprehensive
understanding of student development philosophy, residence hall management and
ability to work with a diverse student and staff population; demonstrated
leadership abilities, organizational skills, and excellent skills in oral and
written communications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Residential Life Department is seeking an
energetic and dynamic individual for the position of Building Manager. The
Building Manager is integral in helping determine the direction of the
residential program and is responsible for an area of 400-500 residents.
The role of the Building Manager is to establish and maintain a residence hall
community conducive to the academic and personal growth of each resident, while
consistent with the goals and objectives of the college. The Building Manager is
responsible for community development under the supervision of the Resident
Counselor. This includes but is not limited to hall administration, programming,
advisement and supervision of Resident Assistants and Residence Hall Community
Council. S/he is involved in staff supervision, program development and other
responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
Maintain a daily log to update Resident Counselors and Residential Life team.
Maintain necessary records such as requests for room switches and inventory
updates. Assist with the coordination of check-in and check-out procedures,
opening and closing of residence halls at the beginning and end of each
semester, room changes, requests for accommodations and any related room
assignment problems. Understand and support staff manuals, policies and
procedures, and the mission of the Residential Life Department. Assist with the
development and implementation of residence hall policies.
Supervise and provide on-going evaluation and feedback for the Resident
Assistants. Recruit and select student staff. Develop and facilitate fall/spring
training, staff in-services, and staff development opportunities as needed.
Participate in Residential Life meetings, workshops and in-services. Hold
meetings with the Resident Assistants and coordinate staff on-call scheduling.
Support the residence hall community council in developing programs, referring
them to appropriate staff and campus resources, and assisting with programs and
social events. Set expectations for Resident Assistant programming
responsibilities including completion of program report/evaluations.
This is a twelve month, part-time, live-in position. The Building Manager serves
in an evening and weekend “on call” duty rotation, and is responsible for
additional intermittent evening and weekend responsibilities as assigned.
Renewal appointments are possible but not automatic. Applications will be
reviewed annually and will be granted for no more than 3 years. In exceptional
cases applications for renewal will be considered for renewal beyond the third
year.
