The manager of special events will play a leading role in the planning and
implementation of well organized, innovative special events in support of the
college’s external initiatives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ experience events planning
and development required. Must be proficient in the use of database software and
Microsoft Office Suite; possess excellent oral and written communication skills,
and exceptional attention to detail. The manager of special events must be able
to function successfully in a fast-paced environment and manage numerous events
concurrently. Demonstrated ability to understand and work with budgetary
procedures and policies required. The manager of special events must have sound
judgment and be able to work both independently and as a member of a team. The
manager of special events must possess strong interpersonal skills, and the
ability to work with a diverse constituency, including faculty, administrators,
students, volunteers and vendors.
Experience recruiting and managing volunteers preferred. Experience in a college
or arts related environment and knowledge of the New York City fundraising
community also preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The manager of special events will assist in all aspects of event planning from
conception to implementation and follow-up. Reporting directly to the director
of special events, the manager of special events is responsible for assisting in
the organization and development of all special events supporting FIT.
Collaborates with the director in planning and implementing a variety of events,
from large college-wide events to department-specific events. Specific
responsibilities include corresponding with vendors, securing event locations,
organizing event logistics and managing the administrative aspects pertaining to
each event. The manager of special events will develop the event staffing plans
and manage event volunteers. The manager of special events is also responsible
for developing and monitoring event budgets and providing regular budget
reports. With the director of special events, the manager identifies,
cultivates, and coordinates volunteer committee members for various events.
Responsibilities also include researching strategies for securing high
visibility event honorees, sponsorships and vendors.
The manager of special events works with the director and the department to
develop new special events for the FIT community. The manager of special events
works collaboratively with administration, faculty and students to produce
highly engaging and enjoyable programs for FIT.
Some evenings and week-end hours required.
