Entrance Counseling - Additional Sessions
For students that have Direct Stafford Loans for the first time, you are required to complete an Entrance Counseling Session. If you were unable to attend one of the in-person sessions during Orientation Week, there are additional Direct Loan Counseling Sessions being held in August and the beginning of September.
You may also complete a session online at StudentLoans.gov.
Federal Work-Study Orientation -
If you were awarded Federal Work-Study for the first time, you are required to attend a Federal Work-Study Orientation session. If you were unable to attend one of the in-person sessions during Orientation Week, you can email [email protected] to sign-up for one of the additional sessions.
The Excelsior Scholarship
The Excelsior Scholarship for 2019-2020 for new applicants has closed. We will post the Spring 2020 application date as soon as it becomes available. For more information, see the Excelsior Scholarship Program and the Excelsior Scholarship FAQ page on the HESC website.
Current Excelsior Scholarship recipients do not need to fill out the Excelsior application again. However, all students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New York Student Aid Payment Application (TAP).

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2019-2020 academic year is now available at fafsa.gov. Both the student and a parent will need an FSA ID number and their 2017 income tax information to complete the student's application. The above deadline listed is for "priority" consideration; you may still apply and be eligible for some programs after the deadline.
