Biography

Christie Shin’s three-decade career includes roles as educator, creative consultant, and design director. Specializing in branding, typography, UX/UI design, and digital product design, she is an associate professor and co-coordinator of the Creative Technology & Design subject area at FIT, where she earned the 2017 Faculty Excellence Award. She chairs FIT's curriculum committee. Before joining FIT, Shin taught design in Pratt Institute’s communication design graduate program and at Hofstra University. 

In 2013, Shin assumed the role of partner and design director at Cynda Media Lab, where she has collaborated with renowned clients such as the Hearst Corporation, UNESCO APCEIU, Gund, MIT, and Sony BMG Music Entertainment. She has won more than 60 national and international awards, including awards from the Type Directors Club, Communication Arts Design Annuals, and HOW International Design Awards.

Shin launched two initiatives in 2024. The Design Portfolio Center provides tailored professional readiness programs for aspiring designers. Additionally, she co-founded DSGN by D., an eco-conscious lifestyle brand that transcends traditional design boundaries. Both ventures underscore Shin's dedication to harnessing design for social impact.

Shin has lectured and presented her work at conferences and renowned art schools around the world, including the Rhode Island School of Design, Cornell University, the National Taiwan University of Arts, and Hongik University in South Korea. She holds a BFA in graphic design, an MS in communication design with a concentration in digital design, and an MFA in digital product design, all from Pratt Institute.
