Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning Protocols

Classrooms, labs, and studios are currently cleaned on a daily basis, which entails sweeping the floors, emptying the trash, and wiping down hard surfaces, as needed.

Offices are currently cleaned daily, which entails sweeping/vacuuming the floor and emptying the trash.

Public spaces are currently cleaned on a daily basis, which entails sweeping the floors, emptying the trash, and wiping down hard surfaces, as needed. Special attention is paid to door handles and handrails.

Restrooms are currently cleaned two times a day, which includes cleaning the toilets, sinks, and floors and replenishing supplies.

Residence halls' public spaces—hallways and lobbies—are cleaned on a daily basis. These protocols continue.

For all campus spaces, cleaning protocols will be refined and the amount of person-hours needed to clean representative spaces will be calculated to determine additional or enhanced cleaning needs.

Cleaning Supplies

Cleaning supplies used are in accordance with CDC guidelines.

HVAC Systems and Water

FIT continues to follow best practices in the management of HVAC systems by running systems in accordance with appropriate energy, humidity, and temperature standards; changing filters; and replacing malfunctioning parts, etc. In addition, earlier this summer, FIT ensured the safety of FIT’s water supplies by following local laws related to water tank cleaning and flushing water lines to clear out water that may have been standing in pipes while the buildings were not in daily use.
