Meet the Dean of Students
Dr. Shadia Sachedina embraces the opportunity to make a positive difference in the
lives of people and currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Student Success & Dean of Students at the Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY). In this role, she is responsible for
the oversight of areas within Student Success that include Residential Life, Student Life, Health Services, Counseling, Athletics and Recreation, Disability Support Services (FIT-ABLE), International Student
Services, and Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP). Additionally as the Dean of
Students, she chairs the campus Care Team and oversees student conduct.
Dr. Sachedina earned her doctorate at New York University in Higher & Postsecondary Education, an MS in Higher Education Administration from Baruch College with the City University of New York, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Stony Brook University (SUNY).
Prior to working at FIT, Dr. Sachedina has worked in Student Affairs at a variety of institutions both public and private. She is a Gallup-certified Strengths Coach as well as a Level 2 Reiki Healer & Practitioner who approaches her work through a “restorative” lens. Her talents lie in her ability to always see the potential in people and situations, and in uncovering the best way to success.
