Transfer Students

Effective Fall 2010, all students transferring from another college into a bachelor's program at FIT are required for graduation to complete a total of 30 SUNY General Education credits†in seven areas, which must include basic communication and mathematics:
  1. Basic Communication
  2. Mathematics
  3. Science
  4. Social Science
  5. Western Civilization
  6. Arts
  7. Humanities
  8. Foreign Language
  9. Other World Civilizations
  10. American History

Three of these general education areas - Foreign Language, Other World Civilizations, and American History - are included as part of the curriculum of each upper division major (unless otherwise noted).

In addition, FITís local liberal arts requirements include a second English course, a second Social Science course, and HA112 as part of the AAS degree.

Please consult the particular major requirements you are interested in to see the specific general education and liberal arts courses required for your major.† These are listed after the four-semester curriculum grid for your degree (scroll down to the bottom of the page).

If a transfer student has already taken one or more of these three course areas, they may substitute a course from another SUNY General Education area to make up their 30 credits in seven areas.† Please consult your advisor to make sure you are meeting FIT's degree requirements.

Campus Policy on Grades:† A minimum grade of C is required for transfer credit in general education coursework.†

All BFA students are required to complete the following credits in order to meet NASAD requirements. Many of these courses may also fulfill SUNY general education requirements:

  1. 12 credits in History of Art (HA) courses; and
  2. 30 credits in liberal arts (non-HA) courses
