TEXTILE/SURFACE DESIGN BFA

Applicant Qualifications
Students seeking admission to FIT’s Textile/Surface Design BFA program must first hold an Associate degree from the FIT programs listed below, or an equivalent degree from an accredited and approved institution.

This baccalaureate program is available to applicants from these FIT associate-level programs:

  • Textile/Surface Design
  • Fine Arts
  • Fashion Design
  • Jewelry Design
  • Illustration

With advisement, the following courses must be completed to enter FIT’s Textile/Surface Design BFA program:

  • TD131 – WOVEN DESIGN
  • SD121 – STUDIO PRACTICES
  • SD224 – COMPUTER-AIDED PRINT DESIGN

If you do not hold this degree and still wish to apply, please schedule an appointment with the department chairperson to discuss your options.

Applicants to this program will be expected to provide a competitive portfolio.

Transfer students from other colleges are eligible to apply to the Textile/Surface Design BFA program if they will earn an Associate or Bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college in a Textile/Surface design AAS program that is precisely equivalent to the FIT Textile/Surface Design AAS program, or if they will have earned at least 60 credits toward a Bachelor's degree in an precisely equivalent AAS program at a regionally accredited college before enrollment at FIT.

A college program is precisely equivalent if it contains the same major area and liberal arts distribution as the FIT Textile/Surface Design AAS program. Transfer applicants from college programs that are not precisely equivalent to FIT's Textile/Surface Design AAS program may not apply to the BFA program.

Admissions Information

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS: See above for degree requirements.

ADMISSIONS DEADLINE: The Admissions deadline date is January 1, 2013.

REQUIRED GPA: Please refer to the admissions website for entrance requirements. Portfolio review is required for all external applicants and FIT internal transfer students.

PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS: Portfolios must be evaluated by the Textile/Surface Design department.

PORTFOLIO REVIEW DATES: Applicants must contact the Textile/Surface Design office to schedule an appointment to show their portfolios.

ADMISSIONS DECISIONS: Applicants will be notified of their admissions decisions by mail, via the Office of Admissions. Please do not contact the Textile/Surface Design department for your decision.
