Nicole Goh, Precollege Program Student
High School Senior, CFDA/Teen Vogue Scholarship Award Winner
I really loved art growing up, and I always knew that I wanted to do something in art. I had a really great teacher who encouraged me to enroll in the Precollege Program, so I did.
The program taught me to be professional, and helped me win the CFDA/Teen Vogue scholarship. I won $5,000 towards my college tuition, and a sewing machine, based on my essay about why I want to be a designer and my mood board with sketches illustrating my views on fashion.
I took a lot of Precollege classes at FIT—Anatomy of Fashion, Fashion Art for Fashion Designers, Sewing for Fashion Designers. I'm learning how to sew and do patternmaking. I made a dress! It was hard, but it was so much fun. It's so exciting when you go to a store and see something, and you know how it was done.
The instructors are so passionate and they really explain everything to you. I met my best friend there. I'm looking forward to being a freshman at FIT in the fall. When you're around people who are as motivated as you are, you just want to keep going and going.
