What should I expect if I go to FITís Health Services?
If students have symptoms of an influenza-like-illness (fever over 100.4, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, rash) we encourage them to consult FIT Health Services. Students who have any symptoms of an influenza-like-illness need to alert the front desk at Health Services immediately upon their arrival so they can be separated from the other students in the waiting room. This is to prevent the spread of all febrile illnesses that pass through our campus yearly. We are in constant close contact with the New York City Department of Health and therefore will be following their guidelines with respect to evaluation, testing and management for influenza-like illnesses.

What Preventative Measures Can I Take?
Below are some preventative measures everyone can take in order to help stop the spread of germs:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or, if water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand cleaner
  • Wash your hands before touching your eyes, nose or mouth
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue every time you cough or sneeze. Throw the used tissue in a waste basket. If you donít have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve, not your hands
  • If you get sick, limit contact with others
  • Do some cleaning using products that contain bleach (check the label when purchasing cleansers and multi-surface cleaning solutions that contain bleach) Ė clean your desk, bed mattress, etc. If you are in an apartment be sure to clean the common areas including kitchens, bathrooms, etc.
