Liberal arts

All liberal arts transfer credits will be evaluated and approved by the Registrar's Office in consultation with appropriate Liberal Arts departments if necessary. Transfer credit is awarded only for course work similar to courses required for your current FIT degree and only when official transcripts and/or score reports have been submitted for review.

AAS Degree
  • All two-year students must take the 24 credits in liberal arts specified by their major, plus two credits in health and physical education. See your degree audit for details.
  • All one-year students must have at least 30 transferable credits, with a minimum of 24 credits equivalent to FIT's liberal arts requirements (three credits in English composition, three credits in literature or speech, three credits in science, three credits in math, 12 credits in the humanities/social sciences, and one course in health or physical education) or graduation from a four-year institution with an earned bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

BFA / BS Degree
  • Students who apply for direct transfer into a Bachelor's degree program must have an equivalent degree with the same distribution of credits as required in FIT's AAS degree (three credits in English composition, three credits in literature or speech, three credits in science, three credits in math, 12 credits in the humanities/social sciences), plus appropriate prerequisites as required by the major.
  •  After AAS students apply, are admitted and pay the tuition deposit for a Bachelor's degree program through the Admissions Office, the Registrar's Office reviews each student's transcripts again for any additional transfer credits that can be applied toward the Bachelor's degree.
  • Those students who were exempt from liberal arts for the AAS Degree based on having earned a Bachelor's degree from a former college, will have their former college transcript reviewed to ensure that they meet the full 24 credit liberal arts distribution. You must replace any liberal arts courses transferred as BD001-BD010 to meet the distribution requirements (three credits in English composition, three credits in literature or speech, three credits in science, three credits in math, 12 credits in the humanities/social sciences) for the Bachelor's degree.
