Placement Tests

Competency in English, Arithmetic and Algebra are graduation requirements at FIT / SUNY. To ensure success, English and Math placements are required.

Placement is determined by taking one of the following exams:

  • The SAT Examination, both Verbal and Math, including the Essay Writing Examination (preferred);
  • The ACT Examination, both Verbal and Math, including the Essay Writing Examination.

Please have your SAT’s/ACT’s sent electronically to FIT:

SAT: Go to www.collegeboard.com. FIT’s school code is 2257.
ACT: Go to www.actstudent.org. FIT’s school code is 2744.

After being admitted and having paid a tuition deposit, you can register for those English and Mathematics courses that coincide with your major based on your SAT/ACT scores.

International Students:  If you were required to submit a TOEFL score, you should take the FIT English placement test as soon as you arrive at FIT.  You cannot register for any English (EN) course until you take the exam.
