FIT Cruises Through Semifinals but Falls in Region XV Finals

After sending BMCC home with a 3-0 win in the first round of the Region XV playoffs, the Tigers took on Dutchess CC in the semifinals held at Ulster CC. The Tigers had already defeated Dutchess earlier in the season, and this match proved no different. The Tigers came out 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-21) victors and stayed on the court to face Suffolk CC in the finals. The Sharks got the better end of the match, defeating FIT 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19). Volleyball Sweeps Weekend Play at Weekend Tri-Match

The FIT Tigers were on a neutral court for two games, playing Suffolk and Queensborough on the floor of Rockland CC. The Tigers played their first match against Suffolk CC, outlasting the Sharks 3-2 (25-20, 25-17, 19-25, 27-29, 15-9).The marathon match proved to be the game that decided the first place spot in the region, as both teams entered undefeated. Tigers Sweep Rockland CC for Season’s 11th Victory
The FIT Tigers played host to Rockland CC and came out 3-0 winners with set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-13. The win puts the team at 11-2 overall and is the team’s 7thstraight win.The night also marked Breast Cancer Awareness night, as the team sported self-designed pink tie-dyed t-shirts with the breast cancer awareness ribbon and the team’s slogan, “Refuse to Lose”. Four Volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2012 Region XV All-Region Team, which was recently announced to the schools. Meghan Houff was named the Player of the Year while Lauren Curley grabbed a spot on the second team. Rachel Carey landed on the second team and Sarah Grochowski rounded out the FIT All-Region representatives on the honorable mention team. Also announced was the first-year coach Carrie Thomas took home Coach of the Year honors. Read More
FIT TIGERS WIN MONROE TOURNAMENT SILVER CHAMPIONSHIP

The FIT Women's Volleyball team finished the month of September by playing in the Monroe Tournament over the course of the months' final three days. The Tigers opened the tournament on the 28th, falling to the College of Southern Maryland 2-3 (20-25, 25-22, 25-29, 21-25, 7-15) and then Monroe later in the evening 3-0 (9-25, 9-25, 14-25). The Tigers roared back though, winning their final three matches against Bergen CC (3-2; 25-15, 25-19, 18-25, 12-25, 15-13), Nassau CC (3-1; 25-18, 15-25, 25-14, 25-22) and Nassau again in the Silver Championship 3-1 (25-14, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22). The Women's Volleyball team was at BMCC for a tri-match with Kingsborough, and came out victorious in both matches to move to 4-0 on the season. The Tigers first defeated Kingsborough 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-11, 25-16) before defeating the host Panthers 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-13). Read More
