ESL/Fashion Business Program
Do you want to improve your English language skills? Are you interested in fashion design, promotion, retail buying, the beauty business, or global fashion business development? Would you like to spend several weeks in New York City?
Then FIT’s ESL Summer English as a Second Language and Fashion Business Program is for you!
This summer, FIT's School of Continuing and Professional Studies' Center for Professional Studies is offering a unique English as a Second Language program. This three-week intensive session offered in partnership with FIT's Educational Skills department includes an ESL course, activities in fashion business and design topics, and field trips around New York City. Attendees meet a variety of fashion-related industry experts in the classroom and at special events. Earn a Professional Studies Certificate of Completion.
Program of Study
The curriculum is designed for students with intermediate or advanced English-language skills. The ESL course concentrates on oral communication skills and focuses on language relevant to fashion and design. Students are tested and placed at an appropriate level.

Fashion Business Program of Study
Five separate tracks:
Attendees choose one track of fashion most suited to their career interest. Choose either track 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5
Enrollment is open for ESL and Fashion Business tracks 1-4. The Elite-level track requires a professional resume and a 1-page essay describing your fashion employment and experience to be sent with your registration form. Your acceptance in the Elite track will be acknowledged immediately. If denied, you will be offered your choice of tracks 1-4.
1. Fashion Design
Discover the basics of being a fashion designer—from sources of inspiration such as the work of the great designers to color and fabrication to knowing your target customer. Experience the steps in planning an actual line and executing mood boards.
2. Fashion Merchandising
Learn how buyers think, work, and are responsible for profit and loss by planning the right merchandise at the right price, time, and place. Shop the market like a professional and plan a jeans assortment for a hot retail store.
3. Advertising, Promotion, and Fashion Styling
Find out how ads and promotions are planned and executed. Experience the art of fashion styling as it is used in advertising, and participate in a live fashion shoot.
4. Global Cosmetics and Fragrance
Experience the career possibilities of the international beauty business. Learn about the world of fragrance, cosmetics, and skin care and who the important resources are. Visit top companies and retail stores and experience developing and launching your own beauty product line.
5. Global Fashion Business Marketing NEW ELITE LEVEL*!
This advanced track is for young executives looking for work or working in international fashion-related companies. Experience how smart companies adapt business style and products to new cultures on site and with social media. Learn about e-commerce by participating in a professional-level market research project.
*Offered in conjunction with FIT's graduate program in Global Fashion Management.

FIT is located at the heart of New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, a vibrant community that is alive with creative energy. The campus comprises an entire tree-lined city block and is within walking distance of Times Square, the Broadway theatre district, and Macy’s, and other landmarks and lively shopping and cultural centers.

Students are encouraged to arrive in New York City on Sunday, July 3. Student orientation and placement begin on Wednesday, July 6, at 9 am.

ESL track: 9 am - noon
Fashion track: 1:30-4:30 pm

Field trips and special events are mandatory. Certificate of Completion is dependent on proper attendance.
Cost and Housing
The cost for the standard three-week program is $1040. The Elite track program is $1050. Included in both is ESL instruction, fashion business program, activities, field trips, special events, and evening buffet.
Housing is available in four-person suites in FIT's residence halls. The cost for three weeks of housing from July 3 to July 28 is separate from the program fee and is approximately $1700. To reserve on-campus housing, visit www.fitnyc.edu/summerhousing. To guarantee your housing, you must apply and pay before June 17. Students will need to provide their own meals. The cost of meals is estimated at $30 per day.
