SUNY General Education Requirements

All FIT students are required to complete a total of 30 SUNY general education credits in ten areas in order to receive a bachelor's degree.

These 30 general education credits are comprised of one course from each of the following ten SUNY general education areas:

  1. Basic Communication
  2. Mathematics
  3. Science
  4. Social Science
  5. Western Civilization
  6. Arts
  7. Humanities
  8. Foreign Language
  9. Other World Civilizations
  10. American History

These ten areas are built into the degree requirements of all FIT majors.  In general, the first seven areas are required in the A.A.S program, and the last three areas - Foreign Language, Other World Civilizations, and American History - are required in the bachelor's program.

In addition, FIT’s local liberal arts requirements include a second English course, a second Social Science course, and HA112 as part of the AAS degree.

Please consult the particular major requirements you are interested in to see the specific general education and liberal arts courses required for your major. These are listed after the four-semester curriculum grid for your degree (scroll down to the bottom of the page).
