Leather Apparel

The Competency-Based Certificate program in Leather Apparel was developed to meet the demands of the leather apparel industry, graduates of FIT's Fashion Design, Accessories Design, and Menswear programs, currently enrolled students, and individuals seeking additional knowledge in the area of leather apparel design and construction. The purpose of the program is to develop skills to a professional level in leather apparel design for menswear or womenswear. Students prepare for positions in the areas of buying, designing, merchandising, and production. The program offers students the opportunity to earn a certificate in two areas of concentration: Menswear or Womenswear.

Each concentration in the program consists of a 12-credit curriculum comprising five courses: AP 241 Leather Design Room Techniques, AP 253 Leather Apparel Design, AR 151 Leather Collection of Womenswear and Menswear, FS 334 Leather Forecasting and Styling, and LD 112 Decorative Leather Techniques.

Upon successful completion of the program, with the recommendation of the faculty, students will receive a Certificate of Competency in Leather Apparel Design in Menswear or Womenswear.
