FIT Track and Field TCNJ Invitational – College of New Jersey
Written by Maria Paolillo
(Ewing, NJ) This weekend the Lady Tigers traveled to the College of New Jersey for the TCNJ Invitational. This was without a doubt one of the biggest meets the FIT Team has faced thus far. They sized up well with the competition by putting their blood, sweat, and tears on the line. It was an absolutely beautiful day for a track meet with very little wind and sunny blue skies. From the start of the meet it was clear that it would be a day to tear down many personal records.
Shannon McIver had her track debut in the 1500 meter run. She pushed to a time of 6:01 to finish 21st overall. Great job Shannon!
In the 400 meter dash Shayna Fairclough had a stellar performance, putting all that she had practiced that week to the test. She finished in a time of 1:03, good for 23rd overall.
In the 100 meter hurdles, Sidnee Compere marked a personal best time of 16.99, finishing 15th overall. Compere just continues to sharpen her skills preparing for the National meet.
In the field events Meredith Gill competed in both the discus and shot put. In the discus, Gill threw 14.24 meters to finish in 36th place. In the shot put, she tossed a total of 7.36 meters, good for 34th place.
Nationals are a mere 4 weeks away, and the Tigers are chomping at the bit to compete. Many improvements have been made this week through hard work and determination. The Lady Tigers will take a break next weekend to rest up, and come back and compete at the TCNY Lions Invite in Ewing, NJ the following weekend.
