(Manhattan, NY) The FIT Lady Tigers had an amazing start to their track and field season on Friday night at the Armory Indoor Track in New York City. 7 athletes competed neck and neck with the competition to land their first marks of the season.
In the 1500 meter run, Shannen Gallardo took 4th place with a time of 5:33, which hit the qualifying standard for NJCAA Nationals! This is an extremely impressive run for so early in the season. Hannah Duncan debuted her first 1500 meter run in a time of 5:40 good for 5th place.
In the 400 meter dash, Shayna Fairclough toughed out her first 400 of the season to capture 7th place in a time of 1:07.19. This time qualifies Shayna for NJCAA Nationals as well! Sidnee Compere finished 11th with a time of 1:10.93. Kelsey Waters came in close behind in 13th, finishing in 1:12.25.
Sidnee Compere also competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 17th with a time of 31.24.
In the 800 meter run, the Lady Tigers went 5th, 6th, and 7th. Hannah Duncan ran a strategic race to capture the time of 2:48. Shannen Gallardo and Kelsey Waters were right behind Hannah with 2:51 and 2:58 respectively.
Meredith Gill, a thrower on the team, competed in the 60 and 200 meter dash to get a chance to compete. She finished with a time of 10.75 for 60 meters and 36.8 for 200. Way to go Meredith!
It is early in the season and already we are seeing some tremendous marks by the Lady Tigers. It is great to see two student-athletes already qualified for the National Meet in May. The team is setting themselves up nicely for a stellar season. Stay tuned to hear how the team does next weekend as they travel for their first outdoor meet in Galloway, New Jersey.
