Deborah Singer Howard

Deborah Howard Singer, SUNY Director of SustainabilityDeborah Singer Howard, a graduate of the University of Michigan law school, served as a higher education lawyer for the Maryland Office of the Attorney General before joining the administration at Washington University in St. Louis. From the start of her tenure at Washington University she worked on sustainability issues, including helping to draft the university’s strategic plan for sustainable operations; staffing the energy reduction committee; chairing a sustainability awareness committee; spearheading a successful campaign to stop the use and sale of bottled water on campus; and, ultimately, serving as the University’s Interim Director of Sustainability. Since January 2012, Deborah has served as Director of Sustainability for the State University of New York, the largest comprehensive university system in the country – an opportunity that allows her to implement and bring to scale cutting-edge sustainability initiatives across the entire 64-campus system and the State of New York
