(Holyoke, MA) The FIT Lady Tigers battled until the very end on Saturday at the NJCAA National Cross Country Championships. It was a cold and overcast day in Massachusetts, but the Tigers used this to their advantage. There were a total of 24 women’s teams competing for the title of National Champions. The Tigers made it their goal to finish in the top 5 teams. Although this was one of the toughest courses the Tigers had faced yet this season, it did not stop them from getting what they wanted. Everyone gave their best efforts for the last race of the season, and it paid off. The Lady Tigers finished as the 5th team overall!
Leading the Tigers to their 5th place finish was Linsey Schroth, with her top place finish of 14th and a time of 21:56. This also got her an individual Top 15 Award. Way to go, Linsey! Shannon McIver was next across the line for the Tigers with a time of 23:02 good for 28th place. Mikalia Macner was not far behind her with a 36th place finish and time of 23:29. Julia Lyons, Kelsey Waters, and Kelsey Oglesby did a nice job of running as a pack and all finished closely with each other. Lyons finished 53rd, Waters was 56th, and Oglesby was good for 58th. Their times were 24:27, 24:36, and 24:55, respectively. Jennifer Roman finished out an awesome season with a time of 28:32.
The Lady Tigers are finished with the cross season for now, but they will be back in action for more intense training and heated competition for the 2014 track season! Stay tuned!
