FIT Volleyball Earn Two Region Victories
By Carrie Thomas
(Poughkeepsie, NY) The FIT Tigers volleyball team traveled up to beautiful Poughkeepsie, NY to pick up two Region 15 wins over Dutchess CC 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-15) and Ulster CC 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-15).
"I really didn't know what to expect of either team. I had looked at the Region stats and saw that most of the upstate teams had split. We practice and prepare for each match as if it's a championship match. We are not taking anyone lightly and push to be our very best. Our goal every match is to play with the highest intensity possible," Coach Carrie Thomas stated.
In the first match of the day versus Dutchess , the Tigers were led by sophomore captains Megan Houff, Vivian Htam and Rachel Carey with 8, 6 and 5 kills respectively. Anna Buckley dished out 18 set assists and Alison Tyler picked up 8 digs.
The afternoon match against Ulster saw a little more offensive explosion. "We let our guard down a little defensively so most of our execution came off of broken plays. The front line did a great job of getting the ball down when given the pass." Megan Houff controlled the net offensively recording 22 kills. Anna Buckley tossed out 36 set assists. Vivian Htam stepped up on offense pounding out 8 kills and Rachel Carey placed 6 kills all over the floor. Alison Tyler and Miranda Mitchell led the defense with 16 and 12 digs.
The Tigers are 22-2 on the season.
