FIT Pounces on Rival Suffolk CC
by Carrie Thomas
(New York, NY) The Tigers came out with arms a-blazin’ to take on and conquer their nemesis Suffolk CC. “I knew going into this match that it was going to be intense from the first serve to the last game point. We drilled it into the heads of our freshman just how intense this match would be. It definitely lived up to the hype!” claimed FIT Coach Carrie Thomas.
The Tigers dropped the first game 17-25. “I think the nerves definitely took over and we started a little flat. All it took was that first game to get it out of our system and warm up. We never looked back after that.” The Tigers closed out the match with next games’ scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-13.
FIT found themselves in a little rut in the third set. Down by 8, the Tigers battled back to take the lead and steal the game. “Our offense and defense worked so hard. We weren’t about to let anything touch the floor on our side. I could see the fire in our eyes and the intensity in our swings. We capitalized on their mistakes and earned our points. In the 4th set we took complete control. It was an amazing match to be a part of. These girls are fighters!” said Thomas.
Megan Houff led the attack with 19 kills and 4 blocks. Anna Buckley dished out 43 set assists in the match. Rachel Carey had a big night with 10 kills and 4 ace serves. Freshman Miranda Mitchell stepped up on offense and defense with 7 kills and 14 digs.
