Incoming Freshmen
Presidential Scholars Application Instructions:
Parts I and II

The Presidential Scholars Program is FIT's Liberal Arts honors program for students in all majors of the college. For more information on the program, go to If you have any questions, check out the FAQs page.

We are looking for students who have demonstrated academic excellence and who are searching for a stimulating and enriching honors program. Candidates should have:
  • A high school GPA of B+ or higher.
  • Solid SAT or ACT scores.
    The Presidential Scholars Program does not have a minimum SAT /ACT score for admissions. While the average SAT total score has been approximately 1800, the honors committee welcomes applicants and offers admission to students with a range of scores.
  • A commitment to honors education in the Liberal Arts.
Candidates will be assessed based on their academic and extracurricular record, their responses to essay questions, and letters of recommendation.

All applications must be received by FEBRUARY 1

This application is in 2 parts. Part I is online and Part II must be mailed in. Send requested documents to the address below.
Part I: After clicking on the link below, please complete all of the questions. You will also be asked to submit an essay. You should have your essay written before you begin filling out the application. Please paste it into the text box provided. You will NOT be able to save your entries and come back to the form later.

Please choose ONE essay topic:
  • Option 1: Works of art, such as movies, poems, novels, art, and music, often affect our perspective on life. Choose a work of art that has had an effect on you. Tell us about that work and let us know how and why it had an effect on you.

  • Option 2: The world has undergone many changes in recent years in the areas of media, technology, entertainment, politics, and climate. How has one of these changes had an impact on your life? Please explain, using details and examples.
Part II: Once you have completed and submitted Part I, be sure to complete both A & B below.
A. Mail two letters of recommendation from teachers, at least one of which must be from a Liberal Arts teacher.
