Poetry and FilmProfessors Madeline Millán and Pilar Blanco Ruiz, Foreign Languages

This proposal is to launch a poetry and film festival for the week of April 24, 2013 at FIT in collaboration with PEN American Center (New York branch of international writers’ society). This week-long cultural event will feature films (from Argentina, Canada, Korea, Norway, Russia), panels, films with major poets reading their poetry, as well as activities that take place on the stage and in the classroom that unite poetry with other disciplines. This event will involve the participation of the Foreign Languages, English and Speech, as well as the Film and Media Studies departments. The project also includes: the creation of a poetry and film blog to be linked to the echofvoices.org website created by Madeline Millán; publishing a trilingual multicultural anthology of poetry; forming workshops on poetry writing; designing and producing graphics for the festival. It is intended that this project will build a foundation for the project Madeline Millán would like to submit for a 2013-2014 SUNY Diversity grant for the April 2014 international poetry event, Echo of Voices: An International Poetry, Music and the Arts Festival.
