FIT to Host Documentary Screening of Versailles ’73: American Runway Revolution
An historic runway battle is coming to the Fashion Institute of Technology when FIT hosts a screening of Versailles’73: American Runway Revolution on Tuesday, March 5 at 5:30 pm at the Marvin Feldman Center’s Haft Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
This documentary recounts the 1973 fashion face-off between American and French designers at Chateau de Versailles that catapulted African-American models onto the European stage and made a name for American designers overseas.
The screening is both in tribute to Women’s History Month and a salute to the 40th anniversary of Le Grand Divertissement à Versailles, the legendary runway presentation that benefited the restoration of the Palace of Versailles.
A panel discussion with film director Deborah Riley Draper and featured Versailles’73 models Bethann Hardison and Norma Jean Darden will follow the screening.
