VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS TRI-MATCH AT BMCC
By Brittany Harris

The Women's Volleyball team was at BMCC for a tri-match with Kingsborough, and came out victorious in both matches to move to 4-0 on the season.  The Tigers first defeated Kingsborough 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-11, 25-16) before defeating the host Panthers 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-13).

During the first game against KCC, the tigers had some tough middle blockers and a scrappy defense to deal with but were able to find the holes in the Waves' defense and seal the win.   "As a team, we are growing with each game we play.  KCC was a tough match because they were such an aggressive team.  They attacked every ball which we have not been used to seeing.  However, we were able to play our game and run our quick offense," setter Lauren Curley commented.

Curley had 21 assists, 3 kills, and 5 aces while Megan Houff had 1 kills, 4 blocks, and 9 digs.  Breanna Dolan chipped in with 6 kills, Sarah Weiss added 4 kills, and Sarah Grochowski anchored the back line with 18 digs.

Right after the team defeated KCC, the Tigers triumphed over the Borough of Manhattan Community College Panthers.  The Tigers had their best serving effort by far this season.  Not only did they find the holes in the defense, but the Tigers managed to consistently drop the ball in them.  On the defensive side, FIT played much better, which allowed them to run an aggressive offensive attack.

Megan Houff had 13 kills and 2 blocks, Lauren Curley tallied 23 assists, and Breanna Dolan added 6 kills, 15 digs, and 4 aces in the match.  Sarah Grochowksi had 14 digs and 6 aces, while Rachel Curley had 4 kills and 3 aces.

"We felt good coming in from a win over KCC.  We were already warm and ready to play and even though we slowed down a little during the third game, we got it done in three," said Sarah Weise.  Sarah Grochowski added, "We carried over our momentum from the KCC match to trounce BMCC in three sets.  Our consistent serving played a key role in helping us win the match.  I'm so proud of our efforts as a whole team."
