Recent FIT Grads Competed in Annual Supima Design Competition
Yvonne Luong graduated Magna Cum Laude in May of 2012 with a BFA in Fashion Design with a specialization in Special Occasion. The inspiration for her Supima capsule collection came from the Aurora Borealis and is an exploration of creating art through coloring techniques and fabric manipulation.
Kyle Pearson graduated Magna Cum Laude in May of 2012 with a BFA in Fashion Design and a specialization in Eveningwear and Bridal. His inspiration for the Supima capsule collection came from what he sees as a shift in global power from Western to Eastern society.
The graduates, representing the “best of the best” in American design schools, presented a capsule collection of women’s eveningwear made exclusively with Supima cotton on September 6th at Lincoln Center as part of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
Started in 2008, the annual Supima Design Competition was created to give runway exposure to emerging talent and was modeled on the legendary 1954 Wool Secretariat competition that launched the careers of the then-teenaged Yves St. Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld. Former winners have gone on to launch their own labels, show at New York Fashion Week, and win jobs with top international labels.
