Campus Signage and Wayfinding

FIT is implementing a Master Plan for Signage, a comprehensive program to provide the campus with attractive, coordinated, and functional signs. They will identify buildings and other locations, making it easier for people to find their way around FIT. The new signage also enhances the college’s identity and visibility in the neighborhood and conveys FIT’s creative energy to the community and New York City. Phase One, which will be completed in summer 2012, will include campus maps, building identification, wayfinding for key locations, and color building markers.

Coordinated Color System Will Identify Campus Buildings
Signature colors will appear on all building signs, and color building markers will further help to reinforce the identity of each building. All maps and directional signage will coordinate, making it easier to navigate the campus.

Official Building Names Will Replace Letter Names
In order to facilitate way-finding as the campus changes physically over time—and to reflect our higher education environment—building identification by letter will be phased out and names will become the primary nomenclature. The large letters on the outside of the buildings will be removed and replaced with clearly visible building names which honor significant figures in the college's history.
