Women Add 10th Place Finish at NJCAA National Championships to Successful Season Resume; Chessa Earns All-America Honors
The FIT women’s track and field team finished 10th at the NJCAA National Championships, held this past weekend at Alfred State College in Alfred, New York. The finish comes a week after placing 10th at the District Championships.
Freshman Guilia Chessa placed 2nd overall in the 400m, finishing the race in 58.55 and earning First Team All-American Honors. She also placed 5th in the 200m dash (26.12).
Casey Buie placed in the Top10 nationally in four different events; 5th in the Long Jump (5.08m), 6th in the High Jump (1.50m), 9th in the Triple Jump (9.88m), and 9th as part of the 4-woman 4x100 relay team (52.82).
Multiple Top10 finishes were also posted by Sarah Grochowski (4th in the pole vault-2.50m, and 5th in the 100m hurdles-17.00) and Jacquelynn Guglielmo (5th in the triple jump-10.50m, 7th in the high jump-1.50m, and 9th in the long jump-4.90m)
There were 21 teams present at the event, with the Championship going to Mohawk Valley CC. The Tigers finished with 33.5 points, 7.5 points behind the 9th place Harper College. A complete list of results can be found here.
