WOMEN PLACE 10th AT DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

The women's track and field team finished 10th overall at the NE District Championships held this past weekend, scoring 51 points.  Host Essex County College took the Championship, after scoring 186 points.  The FIT men did not place at the meet.

 

Giulia Chessa placed second at the 200m race, with a time of 26.59, a better finish than her 26.85 prelim race.  Chessa then took third overall in the 400m, finishing in 58.04.  Sarah Grochowski placed third in the 100m hurdles - 33", with a 17.24 finish.  That was also an improvement over her prelim finish of 17.64.  Sarah later placed 2nd in the pole vault, at a height of 2.60m. 

 

Casey Buie and Jacquelynn Guglielmo placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the high jump, measuring in at 4-10.00.  Guglielmo later placed third in the triple jump, with a distance of 10.45m while Buie placed 6th with a distance of 10.24m.  Casey added a 5th place finish in the long jump as well (15-11.75).

 

Up next for the Tigers is a trip to Alfred, NY for the NJCAA Championships.  The season's final meet takes place May 3-5 on the campus of Alfred State College.
