The FIT Menís and Womenís Swim Teams competed confidently and finished admirably in their fourth year attending the NJCAA National Championship Meet Ė this year at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, FL on March 6-10, 2012. The Womenís Team finished 9th place overall, and 3rd place for Non-Scholarship schools with 255 points, matching their 2011 finish. The Menís Team, in their first Nationals appearance finished in 14th place, and 7th place for Non-Scholarship schools with 149.5 points.

Over the course of the three day meet, FIT Swimming saw three top-16 individual finishes, 11 individual top-24 finishes, and six FIT team records were broken.

On day one, the team competed in the 800 Freestyle Relay and 400 Medley Relay. In the Medley, the Womenís team of Jacki Kicksee, Ivana Ng, Lauren Lyons, and Kate Madjian finished 9th overall with a time of 4:51.26. Leading off the relay, freshman Kicksee also set a new FIT record in the 100 Backstroke, clocking a time of 1:07.45. The Menís team of David Burkel, Kevin Buitrago, Shachar Keizman, and Matt Rodney finished 14th with a time of 4:29.09. In the 800 Freestyle Relay, the womenís team of Maldjian, Lyons, Mackenzie Jameson, and Kicksee broke their own FIT team record by over 15 seconds, going 9:03.88 for 8th place.

On day two, freshmen Burkel and Lyons led off the preliminaries in the 200 Individual Medley, going personal best times of 2:18.38 (28th place) and 2:36.90 (28th) respectively. In the 500 Freestyle, Kicksee started the morning with another FIT record time, breaking her own record by eight seconds with a 5:32.92 to earn a spot in the Consolation Finals. She would finish 16th overall. In the 50 Freestyle, Sophomores Maldjian and Jameson swam personal best times of and 26.79 (27th) and 28.71 (30th) respectively. Maldjianís time was fast enough to break yet another FIT team record. In the evening session, the menís and womenís team competed in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The womenís team of Kicksee, Jameson, Sara Trapani, and Maldjian finished in 9th with a time of 1:52.41 and the menís team finished 13th with a time of 1:43.64.

Day three included the 200 Freestyle and 100ís of each stroke. In the 100 Butterfly, Lyons swam a personal best time in the morning to be seeded 18th going into the evening session. She swam another personal best time of 1:12.98 to finish 18th that night. Also in the 100 Butterfly, Keizman swam a personal best in the morning to earn the 21st seed going into the evening session. At night, he would break his own FIT record to finish 22nd with a time of 1:00.06. In the 200 Freestyle, Jameson and Trapani swam personal best times to finish 29th and 33rd respectively. Kicksee and Maldjian would earn spots to swim again in the 200 freestyle that evening, finishing 17th and 22nd respectively. Maldjian, Jameson, and Trapani all swam personal best times. In the 100 Breaststroke, Ng swam a personal best time in the morning to earn the 17th seed. She would finish 18th in the evening session. Also in the 100 Breast, Burkel and Keizman swam personal best times in the morning to earn the 22nd and 12th seed respectively. That evening, they each moved up a spot to finish in 21st (1:09.00) and 11th (1:03.73) respectively. In the evening session, the FIT Womenís 200 Medley Relay team of Jameson, Ng, Lyons, and Trapani earned 10th place with a time of 2:17.01 and the Menís team of Burkel, Buitrago, Keizman, and Rodney would finish 14th.

On the final day of competition, Lyons led the team off by earning the 24th seed in the 200 Backstroke. She would finish 24th that evening, breaking her personal best time by three seconds with a 2.32.77. In the 100 yard freestyle, Jameson, Trapani, and Ng all set personal best times in the morning session, finishing 26th, 31st, and 33rd respectively. Maldjian would earn the 22nd seed, and go on to finish 22nd that evening with personal best time of 1:00.67. In the 200 Breaststroke, Ng went a personal best time in the morning session to earn the 24th seed. She would finish 24th in the evening session. Also in the 200 Breaststroke, Burkel and Keizman would each swim personal best times again in the morning to earn the 19th and 10th seed respectively. They would finish in 21st and 10th respectively. Finishing off the morning session, Kicksee shattered her own record in the 1650 freestyle by over 30 seconds, going 19:09.85 to finish in 11th place overall. In the final relay of the evening, the FIT Womenís team of Maldjian, Jameson, Lyons, and Kicksee earned 9th place honors with a time of 4:02.55. The Men earned 14th place.
