Michele Y. Washington
Michele Y. Washington is a design critic, writer and design educator. She also maintains a design consultancy officeofmichelewashington that focuses on branding strategy, design and cross-cultural research. Michele’s a recent MFA graduate of the Design Criticism program at the School of Visuals Art in NYC, this is her second Masters, the first Communication Design was from Pratt Institute. Michele’s editor of the blog culturalboundaries (http://culturalboundaries.com/wordpress) her essays have appeared in D-Crit Chapbook, Print Magazine, America I Am Passin it Down Cookbook, and she also writes design column for The International Review of African American Art. Currently, she’s leading another venture as the co-chair and moderator for GLIDE’12 symposium (http://glide12.org/), which functions as virtual hub for global design research. Previously she worked as a designer and art director, for such publications as The Chicago Tribune; The New York Times; Business Monthly, Essence, and Self. She also teaches in the Graduate Exhibition Design Program at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She has served on the board of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), New York chapter, XCD Cross-Cultural Community, and the AIGA Design Journey and currently serves on the advisory board of GLIDE.
