Call for Proposals

CALL FOR PROPOSALS IS NOW CLOSED

“Building for the Future”

The Technology Development Team (TDT), in collaboration with The Center for Excellence in Teaching, will be holding the fifth annual EduTech Day on Thursday, November 14, 2013. Our theme “Building for the Future” focuses on how we can integrate technology and pedagogy in response to the increasingly complex and diverse environments faculty will encounter academically and students will encounter professionally.

This year’s theme is in part responsive to the college’s plan of strengthening the academic core, which will be reinforced while keeping an eye on emerging trends in the professional world. Among our goals are to foster student-centeredness within the FIT community by focusing on collaborative activities. The event will provide hands-on experience linking best practices in education and in professions with current and emerging trends in technology. Teaching-learning and professional practices will be reviewed in an active and involved setting. Attendees will learn how to network, manage and collaborate online for their academic professional activities. Student attendees will better understand the online project management and collaboration skills that are expected from them by industries.

Guidelines for Proposal Submissions

Presentations will take place on November 14, 2013 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in the John E. Reeve’s Great Hall and Conference Center. Proposed presentations should be aligned with one of following tracks and written from either an industry or pedagogical perspective.

Tracks

1. Managing the flow of information in the cloud - Use of news and photo aggregators to manage and store diverse and prolific sources. Examples: Pinterest, Flickr, Image Spark, Feedly.

2. Online Collaboration and Management - Use of wikis and other collaborative technologies in industry. Examples: Google Drive (google docs), Skype, wikis, VoiceThread, Collegiate Net, and Dropbox.

3. Publication and Communication - Use of social media and publication tools in support of teaching and sustaining a media presence. Examples: blogs, Twitter, iAuthor, Delicious, Pocket, Zotero, Vine, Mindmeister, StyleCat.

4. Learning Management Integration - Bringing the outside world into the learning space. Use of modalities for online learning or hybrid classes. Examples: Angel, BlackBoard integrating social media and multimedia platforms beyond FIT.

Contributions that do not easily fit into the above areas will also be considered as long as they are directly related to the overall theme of the conference “Building for the Future.” Sessions may follow one of these formats, or you may suggest an alternative format:

  • Hands-on/workshops and traditional presentations (60 minutes) - offers the opportunity to present on topics of community interest or a paper, with time for questions and answers.
  • Panel discussions (60 minutes) - consist of multiple speakers, each offering a perspective on an issue or set of issues, with time for questions and answers.
  • Mashup (60 minutes) - offer the opportunity for vendors and sponsors to present on products and services in relation to conference theme. For corporations and conference sponsors only. This year we are limiting the showcase track to presentations and demonstrations for marketing products and services. There will be no exhibitor hall. Please contact EduTech@fitnyc.edu for information about sponsorship.

Prospective presenters are kindly invited to submit their proposals via email to EduTech@fitnyc.edu or complete the online form here.  All proposals will be reviewed by the EduTech Conference Committee and evaluated based on originality, research content, correctness, and relevance to conference theme. Proposals will be selected to provide a program that offers a comprehensive, objective, and diverse treatment of issues related to the theme.

Submission deadline is October 18, 2013.
