Award winning speaker, Leila El-Khatib is the founder and Director of Six Degree Seminars, a highly acclaimed consulting and training company. She is an expert on the Middle Eastern World and Islam and has 12 years experience in law enforcement as a Canadian Customs officer (Airport and Marine mode). Leila received the 2008-2009 Canada Border Services Agency Presidentís Award for the Middle East and Islamic training she delivered to Border Services Officers at the Vancouver International Airport, presented to her by the current National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Canada. In 2009, she was selected to do an internship at the Arab American National Museum in Michigan (an affiliate of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington D.C.) while doing coursework at the University of Michiganís Center for Middle East and North African studies.
In 2010, Leila was honored with the British Columbia Institute of Technology Distinguished Alumni Award for Service to the Community, and the City of Vancouverís Cultural Harmony Award. She also served on the Vancouver Police Departmentís Chief Constableís Diversity Advisory Committee for three years.
Leila is an award winning speaker and has been quoted in numerous media outlets including CTV News, Shaw TV, and been featured in Business in Vancouver, Vancouver Sun, BCBUSINESS Magazine, Burnaby Now, and Burnaby Newsleader. Leilaís clients have included the Canada Border Services Agency, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Vancouver Police Department, the Victoria Police Department, the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority Police Service, and the University of the Fraser Valley. She holds a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Arts Degree in Islamic studies from Columbia University. Recently, Leila was admitted into the Master in Public Administration degree program at Harvard University.
